This is not a job, but a 3-month bootcamp for pretty good engineers to get even better in data engineering, create a portfolio project that would convince pretty much any company, and get hired. To do that, we put together a team of experts and let people work as hard as they can with them. If you have the time, the precondition skills, and the inclination, there's no faster way to become a big-data engineer with a very lucrative career. Our graduates are extremely employable and do get multiple offers from the very best data-driven companies in Europe.
The role sits somewhere between a backend engineer and a data scientist. In some organizations, a data engineer will spend their days performing database design.Focus is on databases, big data processing, and distributed systems.
It starts July 1st, and runs for three months in Berlin (There's another batch starting Oct). You will have access to very senior data engineers, contributors to leading open source packages, etc. It's the kind of setup that I wish I had when I started. You will improve your skills faster and deeper than you would by trying self-teaching. After three months, you will be introduced to some of the best data-driven companies in EU and US in a demo day; you will present your portfolio project, and speed-dating interview with all of them. Next door you will have Data Science Retreat, our sister program that is now on batch 04 and whose graduates are now all working at Amazon, Zalando, Kreditech, etc. These companies are likely hiring from the data engineer track.
If you’ve been successful in engineering roles with those skills in the past, even if you don’t have all the skills or experience listed below, you might be a great fit for a Data Science retreat, track engineering.
Good to have:
---------------------
Strong desire to improve yourself, and a demonstrable history of doing so
Ideally, you have done several MOOCs on data science or machine learning
Passion for generating insights from data
Familiarity with trends in data growth, open-source platforms, and public data sets.
From familiarity to strong knowledge of statistical method
Preferably, experience working hands-on with large-scale data sets
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
This program is not for you unless:
- You understand that the future is data-centered, and want to be a first-mover
- You have experience as a developer, but don't think your field is going to be core to business value in the future
