(Senior) System Engineer (m/f) The Site Operations team is responsible for ensuring 24/7 operation of the XING platform. We support XING’s physical and virtual servers, manage the back-up and storage systems, databases and the data centre’s entire network. There are around 20 people in our team who work on our databases, hosting and services, network and technical risk management processes. We use Chef to manage our infrastructure, and are great fans of automation and monitoring. We mainly use Ubuntu Linux as our operating system, MySQL for our databases and Ruby on Rails and Perl for our applications. A challenging task: Strengthen the operations team and work closely with our development teams Maintain, improve and monitor a variety of databases (MySQL, Oracle, RIAK, Cassandra etc.) Networking basics such as switching, routing, load balancing and the ability to solve problems independently Determine needs with your colleagues and ensure top development support Partial responsibility for small and mid-sized projects A convincing background: Excellent skills in designing, implementing and maintaining high-availability database infrastructures Expert in MySQL (Replication, HA, Backup & Restore, Monitoring) Knowledge in one of the following databases: Oracle, MSSQL, PostgreSQL An understanding of non-SQL databases such as CouchDB, MongoDB and RIAK would be great In-depth experience with highly available web application services running in Linux, and therefore also excellent Linux skills Experience in debugging and optimising SQL statements is mandatory Experience with scripting languages like Ruby, Perl or Python would be advantageous Fluent written and spoken English An inspiring environment: XING offers a dynamic environment located in the centre of Hamburg.
